The Hebrew University of Jerusalem held a special ceremony this week honoring the recipients of the Waldman Family Scholarship and the long-standing Yashinsky Prize.
Prof. Tamir Sheafer, President of the Hebrew University, joined Mr. Eyal Waldman, Israel Prize laureate and founder of Mellanox, and his brother Mr. Ofer Waldman, in presenting the awards to exceptional researchers from across the university.
The Waldman Prize, awarded this year for the first time, commemorates the late Dr. Miriam Waldman, mother of Eyal and Ofer Waldman. Dr. Waldman was a graduate of the Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment and a faculty member at the Hebrew University. The prize celebrates academic excellence and innovation in the agricultural sciences. This year’s recipients are Erez Foer, Moran Madmon, and Amir Ronen from the Faculty of Agriculture.
The Yashinsky Prize, established in 1972 in memory of the late Giora Yashinsky, Dr. Miriam Waldman’s brother who perished in a plane crash in Sinai in 1971, continues to recognize exceptional achievements in chemistry, mathematics, and Jewish studies. The 2025 recipients are Eliyahu Berkowitz (Jewish Studies), Mai Sela (Mathematics), and Nevo Levy (Chemistry).
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Sheafer praised the Waldman family’s enduring commitment to education and research: “The Waldman family’s generosity is an investment in the future of Israel, in a vision of a democratic, innovative, and compassionate society,” said Prof. Tamir Sheafer. “By supporting young researchers, they are ensuring that the brightest minds continue to advance science and strengthen our shared future.”
The Hebrew University congratulates all award recipients for their outstanding achievements and contributions to academic excellence.
