Upon the conclusion of the second term of office of the President of the Hebrew University on 30 September, 2025, the Search Committee encourages qualified candidates to apply for the position of President of the University.
The role of the president is defined in section 7 of the Constitution of the University which states, inter alia: “The President is the Head of the University, responsible … for the management of the University, its standards and quality, and for the fulfilment by the officers and other authorities of the University of their respective roles… The President represents the University externally.”
Under regulation 59 of the General Statutes of the University, “The presidential candidate shall hold the status of full or associate professor of a research university and shall have thorough knowledge and understanding of all aspects of university life and the goals of higher education.”
In addition, the President shall be a resident and citizen of Israel from the beginning of his/her term of office.
Amongst the qualifications that will be considered by the Committee are experience, professional reputation and personal achievements, ability to formulate and implement a strategic vision, exceptional leadership and managerial skills, familiarity with the system of higher education in Israel, fund-raising skills, ability to represent the Hebrew University in Israel and abroad and excellent communication skills.

The application should be accompanied by a CV and a short letter describing candidate’s qualifications and vision for the future of the University.

The Search Committee reserves the right to invite candidates for interview at its discretion. It is currently contemplated that interviews will take place in person, at a location to be determined, on 2, 3, or 4 March 2025, subject to change if necessary due to scheduling conflicts.
